With the current uncertain marketplace auctions up and down the country are feeling the effects of the downturn. David Sandeman of the Essential Information Group reported that " As with March 2008, April saw an increase in lots offered overall, when compared with the same month last year, but a decrease in both the number of lots that sold and amount raised. April 2008 did see though, a 23% increase in the number of commercial lots offered over April 2007."
Although still well below the figures sold at auction a few months ago, Wales seems to fair better than the rest of the UK at present. Lots offered is down -11.4% whilst total money raised is down -22.6% for the period Feb-Apr 2008 compared to the same period last year. This compares to a drop of -35% in London for the same period. The number of properties coming to auction has increased in most areas but the current market looks like only the real bargains are selling. |
