It used to be a real hasstle trying to get plumbers out for jobs especially if they are small ones, but now that the downturn has kicked in I can get hold of people a lot quicker than before. I suppose most of the building site boys have gone back to domestic work which perhaps puts more pressure on this sector of the market.

There are of course many downsides for landlords with the current economy, but certainly one of the upsides is getting jobs done a lot quicker. How long it will last we shall see.

It is getting tough out there, many of the tradesmen that I use are starting to get a bit concerned. People are ringing me now looking for work, this has never happened in the last 5 years that I have been a landlord.

I needed a plasterer this week as one of the lads that I use couldn't get off his current job, but I was able to get somebody else the same week, this wouldn't have happened 6 months ago.

Maybe we will get some more competitive pricing on jobs from now on?

Like most people I suppose, I have build up a contact list and don't usually have to go outside of this unless someone is too busy or unavailable for whatever reason. But its useful to know that if we need people quickly maintenance/refurb jobs shouldn't be held up because we can't get men on site.
